Matt Kenny grew up in Moncton. He Graduated from Mount Allison University in 2013 and opened the Tatamagouche Brewing Company in 2014 with his partner Christiane and her parents. Matt's in charge of making the beer at the brewery and those who've had a taste know that Matt's a master of his craft. He lives in Tatamagouche with Christiane, their two dogs and new kitten. He's a huge sports fan, loves to travel, and is always on the hunt for good beer and good food.
1. How did you get started in business?
There were four of us who started the brewery: my girlfriend, Christiane Jost, and her parents, Hans Christian and Karen Jost, and myself. Construction started in 2013 and we opened in 2014 in beautiful Tatamagouche.
2. What is your morning routine?
Brew days start early. Up at 5am, feed the dogs, breakfast and then off to the brewery to start mashing in (the first step to making beer). Coffee immediately after that!
3. Where is your favourite place to unwind in Nova Scotia?
Christiane and I had a really great trip to Lunenburg last summer. I was able to play more golf than usual last summer which was great, so I spent time on the courses around us. The beaches in Malagash are amazing as well!
4. What's a goal you're working towards right now?
Work smarter not harder. More personal time.
5. Who inspires you and why?
Overall, my family, but in particular my grandfather. I think watching him work so hard when I was younger and hearing people talk about him today motivates me to work hard and be proud of what I am doing. I would not have been able to keep up to him when he was my age—the man is a legend!
6. When was the last time you failed spectacularly at something?
Calculus in university!
7. What's the best advice you've ever received?
Whatever you end up doing in life, it is a lot easier if you love what you do. I can say that I am very fortunate to be able to do that!
We're so grateful to Matt for shedding some light on how he balances work and life, and stays passionate in his career. We'll be taking a short break from blogging until the new year. Happy holidays, everyone!

Remember me Matt when that quality control job comes up. I prefer to work alone, at night and only on weekends.
How to be Matt and Merry Christmas to you and yours.
