How to Cure a Hangover in Halifax

Will NelsonAugust 21, 2017

As health-conscious as we are, we're no stranger to hangovers. Lucky for you, it's given us lots of insight into the most effective remedies for alleviating the pounding-headache-queasy-stomach-room-spinning reality that is the aftermath of a night of heavy drinking. Without further ado, here's our tried and true step-by-step guide to curing your hangover in Halifax:

Step 1: Get your hands on a fresh-pressed green juice or smoothie containing lots of potassium rich veggies to replenish your electrolytes. We recommend keeping a stockpile of our Going Green smoothie in your freezer for just this very reason or enVie, Pete's and The Juice Press Inc. have great alternatives. Follow that up with water with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to flush toxins from the liver.

Step 2: Pop a multivitamin with breakfast to help your body replenish vital nutrients that get depleted during a night of drinking.

Step 3: If you're not feeling too worse for the wear, hit up a yoga class. We love RIO or Shanti. Mindfully moving your body, especially through gentle twists, and hanging out for brief periods of time with your heart above your head can reduce the effects of a hangover.

Step 4: Mosey over to Saje and get a whiff of grapefruit essential oil. This potent citrus derivative increases liver detoxification and stimulates the lymphatic system, the workhorses of internal cleansing. The scent is also naturally uplifting and soothing and can help to curb a hangover-induced headache.

Step 5: If none of the above do the trick, sometimes a little hair of the dog is the way to go. Just make sure to match alcoholic drinks 1:1 with water so you don't end up in the same boat the next morning!

BONUS! Our top two tips for how to prevent a hangover in Halifax:

#1 Hustle over to Sawadee Tea House for a bag of their signature Hair of the Dog tea. This step requires a little advanced planning, but the extra effort means you'll never end up immobilized on the couch praying for death watching reruns of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia again. Word.

#2 Eat an entire cucumber before bed. Trust us on this one.

When in doubt, water, water, water. We can't stress this enough. Make your motto "before, during and after" and kick hangovers to the curb for good (or a least dramatically reduce your recovery time).
